2017 Motocross Of Nations | Team Puerto Rico Announced
Team Puerto Rico’s lineup for the 2017 Motocross of Nations has been confirmed with three American racers in the lineup. Marshal Weltin, Darian Sanayei, and Justin Starling will represent the small Caribbean island at the international event. How can three Americans ride for any other squad? Puerto Rico is considered an unincorporated territory of the United States and riders often take advantage of a loophole in the rules.
Weltin is currently in his rookie season of the EMX 250 division that runs through Europe in conjunction with the 2017 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship with support from BUD Racing Kawasaki. He is currently fifth overall in the championship standings. Sanayei moved to Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki MX2 in 2017 and is currently twelfth overall in the MX2 standings of the 2017 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship. Starling is a privateer based in the United States and is crowdfunding his trip to the MXoN.
This is a change in the initial lineup for the team this year, as original member Thomas Covington was plucked away by Team USA. With this, Weltin was brought on to race.
The 2017 Motocross of Nations takes place September 29th-October 1st at Matterley Basin in England. The event’s official website is www.mxon17.com.
